Received my Dell M1330 Monday!

I have taken picture, but I haven't had the time to post them up yet for my initial thoughts.  Of course, I will give more pictures and reactions later, but with the amount of time I have spent so far with this laptop, I have a few minor complaints for it.  Of course, with the complaints I have, I'll try to get some pictures up so you can see what I mean too, you can see what I mean below.  I would like to preface all of these complaints with how much I actually love this M1330.  The keyboard feels slightly stiff but nice, and it is fast!! :)

led-washedout.gifFirst complaint is that the top of my LED screen looks kind of washed out.  As you can see on the left, it seems like the backlight is showing through, so along the top of the screen, it's lighter than usual.  It looks like that of old LCD monitors near the corners where the color looks like they're washed out.  I know I'm a bad picture taker, but in reality, the screen is black (not blue) and the line at the top is dark gray.

Second complaint is that the battery gets hot.  The Dell 700m that I had before, the battery stayed rather cool through uses, but not this laptop.  The battery gets warm, of course, not superhot or anything like that.  The reason that I bring this up is that a warm battery will degrade a lot faster than a cool one.  I don't know how much it will affect overall battery life, but I don't think it will be good to the battery regardless.

Third complaint is the biometric fingerprint reader.  No matter what I try to do, it won't read my stupid fingerprint!  I've read about similar problems elsewhere, it may be because of drivers, but who knows!  It's not working right now, and it's bothering me.  Although, I don't think I'll use this feature much anyways, but it gets on my nerves because it's not working properly…sigh!

Fourth complaint is the hard drive.  It makes an awfully loud click.  It only happens once in a while though.

Fifth complaint, and this one is a biggie!  It seems like they have sent me a laptop that could have been dropped once or twice!  Let me show you the pictures of how the broken part looks like.

This is located right on top of the keyboard.  The broken side is the left side, as you can see, there's a spacing between the bracket and speaker piece.  The right side has a tight fit.  Good thing I have something to compare with, otherwise I wouldn't have known that this was broken.  The left bracket piece also moves when you push on it…not quite what I had in mind for a brand new laptop.

Update: I talked to Dell on Thursday, January 31st.  They are now in the process of building a replacement M1330 for me!  I can't wait.
