This is one busy semester for me. The end is in sight since I only have one semester left and I’ll join the rest of the workforce, hopefully some time in January 2009. What exactly has been going on with me? Let me break down what I have to do each week,
- Five classes: they add up to 15 credits. Including homework, I think I spend about 30 hours a week total dealing with just school stuff.
- Data structures TA: I now teach two lab sections for the data structures course. That’s 6 hours a week of teaching, totalling to at least 10 hours of just TA work. Most of the time, I spend more time helping students with the concepts.
- Programming job: I’m very blessed that this job is flexible. I tend to do a lot of the programming on the weekend, so I spend about 7 – 10 hours catching up on things I was supposed to be doing during weekdays.
- ISG Help desk: yes, I have one of those ungrateful jobs of being a tech in my CS department. I should work about 10 hours each week, but I usually do only 8.
- ACM: Association for Computing Machinery, I am an officer of this club. I spend somewhere from 3 to 6 hours a week coordinating events for it.
That gives me about 30 + 10 + 8 + 7 + 3 = 58 hours a week at a minimum. I think I average around 65 hours, but I can’t be too sure because I’ve never actually kept track. Anyway, this week I also have to do a lot of interviews with potential employers. We recently had a career fair at our school which I had to help with because it is a requirement for the ACM. Anyway, I’ve been spending a lot of time interviewing with different companies. There is one in particular that I am interested in, we’ll see how that goes. I’ve had a history of freezing up during technical phone interviews. Anyway, that’s the update with my life, those of you who are still reading this, wish me luck!
