Drive Guard

This is a small piece of application designed to prevent cd drives on laptop computers from popping out accidentally. On many occasions, these drives will pop out when the eject button is pushed inadvertently, and may even cause damage.

I originally wrote this for my girlfriend for her Toshiba Portege M405. The eject button on their CD/DVD drives protrude more than typical ones, and has the tendency to be pushed accidentally. There were a few times she thought that her drive was broken since it had opened while inside of her bag. She liked this program a lot, and thought that I should be putting it out there for everyone to use.

Installation: This program should not require installation, but it does require registration (which is free).  Once registered and DriveGuard.ini is placed in the same folder as the executable DriveGuard.exe, you should be able to double click DriveGuard.exe and go.  There will be no system tray icon or window once it is launched.

Enjoy!

Maninder,

Sadly, the program you are talking about is not mine. I never released mine, and what you have is some sort of spyware. It would be best if you go to a spyware website to find more information regarding on how to remove it.

DriveGuard.exe is a virus - Trojen -spyware and its spread by micro-soft.tripod.com. This trojen reaches your computer from unknown source, even if you run any anti-virus, say Kaspersky or McAfee (Internet security suite).

This trojen generates a file called "verupdate.tmp" in the temp folder of the computer and it runs as a system process collecting datas along with the main file driveguard.exe.

After collecting datas it generates a jpg file at internet temp folder and connects to the said tripod site as a process of IE.
