A problem with the M1330 VGA port
So, I have the dell E22FP along with my M1330. In the first few days/weeks, the monitor was working fine. Then, I noticed that it was flickering when viewed from a slight angle. At first, I thought this was a problem with the LCD. My first inclination was to complain to Dell. However, being that I am a lazy person, I never did that :), but then I realized that when my M1330 plugs into other LCD monitors, the flicker also appears. When I try to boost the refresh rate up past 70Hz, the flickering disappears.
Since the problem appeared on more than one LCD monitors, my immediate reaction is that something is wrong with the output of the computer. My first step in diagnosing this problem is to remove as many things running as possible. So, I went to disable my wireless card, bluetooth, extra buttons, etc… and there was still flickering. I then unplugged the M1330 from the AC adapter and voila, no more flickering. I thought that it was odd that the power would disrupt the VGA signal, but then again, the VGA output and the AC adapter socket is located right next to each other.
If anything, I would expect that there is some bit of electromagnetic interference going on at that location. Possibly if I can get some sort of filter or a better VGA cord, the flickering can be reduced. However, I doubt it would help much. A possible, but improbable solution, is to route the VGA port to another place on the computer? We'll have to see what Dell says about this, but it seems like a major design flaw to me.
In a sense, this is a good find since then I wouldn't have to return my E22FP monitor. That would be such a big hassle!
