War2Observe 2.0
I've finally gotten version 2.0 stable enough for a release, maybe it should be a 2.0b1? I have completely rewritten and restructure the code so that it wouldn't crash (as often), especially among those players with long, arcane directories for their War2. However, if your directory is long enough, it may still cause such a crash. Additionally, since the program is better structured now, you also benefit with having a smaller executable. Although, it's not like 10kb means that much anyway :). One thing I should have made clear previously, this is for the latest English version of War2 only!
Please report bugs if you find any, there are a few known ones right now. As for reporting crashes to me, you need to tell me when and how it crashed as well as what you did to cause the crash. Also, it does not help either of us if you come up to me and say things like, "your program is horrible, is crashed me". The first thing about getting me to fix bugs is not to tell what a "shitty job" I am doing. If you are in this camp of people, please refrain yourself from doing so or don't use the program.
Bugs fixed:
- Crashing for long directory names
- Crashing when right clicking on minimap
- Crashing when going back to player mode after being watcher mode
- Text is now less messy than before
Additions/Changes:
- Color of display does not change when other texts appear
- Shows p/g/o for peons, grunts and ogres
- Shows k/r for kills and razings
- Close War2Observe without having to restart War2
- Edited readme.txt, FAQ, homepage for this program
I have chosen not to make an option to turn on/off the displays (tie vote anyway). That takes more time than I am willing to spend on it. It is hard because different options results in different text appearing on the screen. I already have trouble updating the screen properly as is.
NOTE for Win98/ME users: I have used a few memory functions that are available only to Windows 2000 and above. However, you are in luck because there exists an open source project called KernelEx which adds NT functions to the Windows 98/ME. This is a workaround, I cannot guarantee that it will work for you or it will be stable for you.
